Non-writing related confession

Last night I watched some of Return of the Jedi with my four year old niece and seven year old nephew. This is not worthy of a confession, but brought on what I am now about to confess:

I have never seen Star Wars.
I have never seen episode four, episode five, episode six.
Nor have I ever seen episode one, episode two, or episode three.

However, I have a plan to remedy this, so don't hurt me yet. Someday, when I start having whole spans of 24hrs plus off, I'm going to rent all six of them and start with Episode one (I hear the first three are worse than the last three, and if I watch them all in order, I won't be so let down).

I suppose if I tried, I could make this relate to writing, somehow.

I got into this argument with my ex-girlfriend all of the time. She hates science fiction stuff, but movie series such as Star Wars and The Matrix really transcended the genre and become part of our culture. Not even pop culture, American culture. She still refuses to see it, which in the end is her loss.

*The author of this comment would like to note that he is not, NOT, one of the huge geeky fans of either of these movie series, however, the author does feel that people should do things that they do not want to sometimes simply because they SHOULD do them. The author is glad that Katie has made plans to fix the gap in her movie knowledge. The author will also not be held responsible for any adverse health conditions resulting from watching said movies. Adverse health conditions includes, but is not limited to: dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, sore throat, fever, gonorrhea, spastic duodenum, irritable bowel syndrome, dry mouth, and anal leakage.

Katie, have you every tried writing Sci Fi? Or have you always felt totally uninterested in all things science fiction related. I personally enjoy movies like Star Wars (not so much Star Trek or the Matrix) because of the human-ness that comes through, not necessarily because of the sci-fi elements. Plus Luke Skywalker is totally hot.

And Bret, on a lesser importnat but still somewhat curious note: What's the difference between diarrhea and anal leakage? They seem to be synonymous.

The typos in my comments are making me crazy, does anyone know how to edit what I've written after it's posted???

I've only seen Episode 1. The space age fantasy stuff has not really enticed to watch any more.

Plus I am a bum and hardly do anything at all.

Bret-- thanks for the warning, I think.

Megan-- I've never really been into the sci-fi-ish stuff (although I've always had a geeky spot for a certain kind of fantasy element that stems back to my childhood fascination with fairy tales). I have seen the first Matrix and I think most of the second one.

Charles-- I'm a little afraid if I watch the 1st one 1st then I might lose the drive to see all six, but I'm not sure which is worse-- to lose the drive and fail or to be horribly disappointed in the first three after watching the second three.
